Voetius Summarized by Herman Bavinck

These are the words of Herman Bavinck summarizing Voetius, as excerpted from Bavinck, Herman, Saved by Grace: the Holy Spirit’s Work in Calling and Regeneration, edited by J. Mark Beach and translated from the Dutch by Nelson Kloosterman (Reformation Heritage Books, 2008), p. 63

Calling is that benefit whereby God presents and offers the goods of the covenant; regeneration makes a person suited to share in them.¹  The cause of regeneration is twofold; the physical cause is the power of God, but the moral cause, so termed because it precedes the first-named cause or is joined to it, is calling.²
