The Westminster Larger Catechism, #141
“The duties required in the eighth commandment [Thou shalt not steal.] are, truth, faithfulness, and justice in contracts and commerce between man and man (Ps. 15:2,4; Zech. 7:4,10; Zech. 8:16,17), rendering to every one his due (Rom. 13:7), restitution of goods unlawfully detained from the right owners thereof (Lev. 6:2-5 compared with Luke 19:8)… avoiding unnecessary law-suits (1 Cor. 6:1-9)… and an endeavour, by all just and lawful means, to procure, preserve, and further the wealth and outward estate of others (Lev. 25:35; Deut. 22:1-4; Exod. 23:4,5; Gen. 47:14,20; Phil. 2:4; Matt. 22:39)…”
The Fair Use of Copyrighted Material on this Site
The purpose of this website is to glorify God, who is the Judge of all and all matters. All material on this site is believed to be in the Public Domain or within the Fair Use of copyrighted material. To better understand the extent and limitations of the Fair Use doctrine, see the Federal legislation regarding it, and the Wikipedia article further elaborating on it.
The excerpted copyrighted material on this site is: non-profit, sourced, very selective, limited, and brief, educational in purpose, labor and value added, and transformed from its original form into HTML.
In a few instances a few or a handful of pages of a copyrighted work have been excerpted from works that are often a few or several hundred pages long. Note that the content of these longer excerpts are focused on a very particular topic and serve for research and documentation purposes regarding larger themes on the website as a whole, which is a work of its own. The passages quoted are not often the primary substance of the copyrighted work as a whole, and are not normally the reason why a person would buy the original work. The effect of this site on the potential market for such a copyrighted work is very insignificant, and probably positive, increasing the revenue of the copyright holder. Such excerpts are all highly commended and have Buy links next to them, for the promotion of the work and the hope that people will buy and read the whole thing and get all their friends to buy it as well.
If you are the copyright owner of a work, and believe that the Fair Use of your material has been infringed, please use the Contact Page to let the webmaster know, who seeks to “render… to all their dues” (Rom. 13:7).
